  1. Disclaimer of liability Breathwork by SwissBreathwork
  • I understand that breathwork practitioners do not diagnose, prescribe or perform medical treatment, prescribe substances or interfere with the treatment of a licensed medical professional.
  • I understand that Breathwork does not replace medical care.
  • It is recommended that I consult a doctor or registered health professional for any physical or psychological condition I may have.
  • I understand that Breathwork is not a substitute for psychotherapy, but that these techniques can significantly deepen and enhance psychotherapy and other efforts at healing and personal development.
  • I also understand that the body has the capacity to heal itself and that, to do this, complete relaxation is often beneficial.
  • I recognise that long-term imbalances in the body sometimes require several sessions to facilitate the level of relaxation the body needs to heal itself.

BREATHWORK:

Although there are no known contraindications to the practice of Breathwork, anyone with medical concerns is strongly advised to consult their regular practitioner.

BREATHWORK IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR CERTAIN PEOPLE
The Breathwork technique by SwissBreathwork can lead to intense physical and emotional release. This technique can be compared to high-intensity training. If your doctor has advised you against this type of activity, contact us directly so that we can give you a modified breathing technique to practise. After discussing it, we may realise that you can do it, but that you simply need to slow down. If in doubt, consult your doctor.

If you try this breathing technique and experience heart palpitations, dizziness, nausea or tingling in the lips, simply stop Breathwork through the mouth and return to nasal breathing.

Please consult your doctor or inform us in advance if you present any of the following characteristics…

  • History of cardiovascular disease, including angina or heart attack, high blood pressure, glaucoma, retinal detachment, osteoporosis.
  • Recent major physical injury or surgery.
  • Serious mental illness, epileptic disorders or if you are undergoing heavy drug treatment.
  •  Personal or family history of aneurysm.
  • Pregnancy.
  • Severe asthma. Bring your inhaler and let me know in advance.

Breathwork is not a substitute for psycholotherapy, but it can considerably deepen and enhance psychotherapy and other efforts at healing and personal growth.

The terms of our training agreements and SwissBreathwork’s ethics for practitioners can be found above.

SwissBreathwork ethical standards

  1. Adherence to an ethical standard of practice is a defining element of any profession. A code of ethics provides clarity and security to the public and to practitioners about the purpose of their relationship and the boundaries within which they operate. Subscribing to a standard code of practice communicates to the general public that breathing is a valid, accessible and professional tool for healing and growth.
  2. All the trainers and practitioners who are subscribers or members listed on this website have signed a commitment to abide by these ethics. They have also committed to a process of responsible action when a breach of ethics is identified. The process recommended by SwissBreathwork is set out below.
  3. The SwissBreathwork Board Ethics Committee is available to advise and assist in the event of a perceived breach of ethics by a breathing professional.
  1. Customer suitability.
  1. a) Establish a client’s ability to use and integrate the results of a breathing session.

  1. c) Practise my breathing skills primarily for the benefit of the client.
  1. d) Maintaining the confidentiality of customer information and the security of recordings of customer session content.
  1. Practitioner competence
  1. a) Practice in my area of professional competence, training and expertise, make this clear to potential clients and do not make claims for my service that cannot be justified.
  1. b) To continue to develop personally, practising the technique I offer to others while nurturing the passion and respect for my vocation, and maintaining a healthy balance in my work and personal car
  1. c) Seek supervision and consultation where appropriate.

If this does not sufficiently resolve the problem, consult the most appropriate professional and/or civil authorities in my area for the protection of the clients concerned.

SWISSBREATHWORK process for dealing with ethical breaches

An important goal of the SwissBreathwork Certified Practitioner Ethics and Principles is to provide an informative, life-enhancing and healing framework for practitioner-client relationships. While it is impossible to specifically address every situation or give exhaustive guidelines for all behaviours, these ethics and principles are intended to guide towards the highest ideals.

In the process of making decisions about professional conduct, SwissBreathwork practitioners must be mindful of SwissBreathwork’s ethics and principles, in addition to the laws and regulations applicable in Switzerland or the specific professional associations with which they are affiliated. Where SwissBreathwork standards are higher than those required by law, practitioners must adhere to the highest SwissBreathwork standard.

Recognising the humanity of all practitioners, there may be times when a practitioner breaches an ethic or principle, knowingly or unknowingly. The practitioner may become aware of the breach themselves or may be made aware of the breach by a client or another practitioner.

The guidelines put forward by SwissBreathwork encourage restorative and corrective measures, rather than punitive or regulatory measures, to promote good health and benefits for all concerned. We suggest that when practitioners use this process, they undertake it as an opportunity to heal, learn, evolve and benefit the well-being of all involved.

The process has five possible stages, the paradigm being to move on to the next stage only if healing and restoration cannot take place in the previous stage.
